The New Jersey Region
The New Jersey Regional Office of the Deborah Hospital Foundation has many hats. We see ourselves as the culmination of many of the departments. Among the duties of the region are overseeing the activities of 65 chapters and supporting their needs, supplementing the chapters efforts with special events such as, the Designers' Show House, Golf Tournaments, and many more (refer to the foundation calendar for further information), and stimulate new interest and increased awareness of Deborah, through contacts with individuals, schools businesses, organizations, and other community groups throughout the state.

There are many ways you can share the joy of giving and become involved in this humanitarian effort. Join a chapter in your area, or for those with limited availability you can participate by becoming a "regional member". This new program offers you the opportunity to help support Deborah through fulfillment of an annual commitment to raise $25 or more by your own means.

Local Youth Donates Birthday Money to Deborah

Left to right: Sisters Heidi and Heather Martin, along with mom Barb, dad Col. Rick Martin (Commander at McGuire Air Force Base), join with Chris Martin (center) in presenting $400 collected from his birthday money to Jay Hadley, Chief Operating Officer for Deborah Hospital Foundation.

Ten-year-old Chris Martin, from McGuire Air Force Base, recently donated $400 to Deborah Hospital Foundation in support of Deborah Heart and Lung Center. The young philanthropist, a fourth-grader at Columbia School, celebrated his December birthday at a party in January at the Youth Center on base. Instead of using money to buy gifts for his birthday, Martin asked that his friends use the money as a donation for Deborah. He collected the monies at his party and presented the contributions to Deborah Hospital Foundation.

“This was my first time giving money to an organization,” Martin said. “I learned how to be generous and give from my Mom and Dad.” Martin said he had several motivations to give to Deborah. Among them is a friend who receives on-going cardiac care at the hospital, and the hospital’s reputation for having treated children from all over the world. “I know the hospital helped some kids from Iraq last year,” he said. “I thought that was very good.”

Chris’ dad, Col. Rick Martin, Commander at McGuire, added that his son let the people invited to his party know that donations were welcome. “Chris told them that the gifts were going to Deborah Heart and Lung Center.” Some of the parents of Chris’ friends were so moved by his gesture that they supplemented the amount raised by giving him additional donations.

Col. Martin noted, “Fourteen children came to the party and I heard a conversation between a parent and their child about what a wonderful idea it was to do this. So this might spill over to other families and their birthdays.
